Letter: Let voters decide on supervisors’ pay raises

Are you kidding me? How many times do we allow the Linn County Supervisors to be paid a larger salary?
My husband and I are on Social Security and our two monthly payments come nowhere close to what these people think they are worth. The majority of Cedar Rapidians are making due with much less money and, more than likely, working much harder and with longer hours. Some county officials seem to agree with the citizens of the county by not wanting to take a raise or giving it to someone that deserves it.
Sure, the state sets the amounts they can receive. However, it also states they don't have to take it, if it will hurt their county. That part never reaches the desks and ears of the supervisors.
Kevin Kula, of Concerned Citizens of Linn County, said it very well in the March 12 article 'Petition calls for cutting number of supervisors.” We do not need five supervisors to do the work that used to be done by three. Any pay raise for any elected official should be on a ballot for the populous to decide.
Remember these things when you vote.
