Fewer women than men serving prison time

To the editor:
Every few years politicians feel pressured to discuss the inequities in the Iowa criminal justice system as it pertains to the high percent of minorities in prison.
There is another inequity never discussed which is the ratio of male vs. female prisoners. The ratio is roughly 14 to 1. Why does no one talk about this? Do females have a different criminal code? I don't think so. Maybe, just maybe, females commit fewer crimes thus we have fewer requiring prison.
