McEnany, Arthur Joseph
Arthur Joseph McEnany died Oct. 24, 2012.
He was born in 1945 in Manchester, Iowa, to A.J. and Loretta McEnany. Arthur was the oldest of eight children. He was raised in Ryan on a farm that had been in his family for over 100 years. He graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Ryan and later attended Loras University in Dubuque, where he received a degree in economics. After college, Arthur joined the Air Force, serving from 1967 to 1971. He was stationed in Topeka, Kan., where he met and married the love of his life, Virginia “Ginny.” They were married in 1969 and have two daughters, Patricia (Donald) Mabary and Cheryl (Martin) Parks. They were also blessed with five grandchildren, McKinzie and Marina Parks, Brady, Logan and Wyatt Mabary.
Arthur loved his grandchildren and was known to be an easy “sell” for a trip to Dairy Queen, a game of hide and seek, or Hungry Hippos. He loved being outdoors and spent many years hunting, camping, boating and traveling with family and friends.
Arthur worked in manufacturing for many years before retiring as plant manager at American Binderies in Topeka. He went on to fulfill a dream of business ownership, purchasing and operating an outdoor power equipment shop for over 10 years. Later, he and Ginny sold the business in order to travel and move closer to their children and grandchildren. He spent many hours farming, gardening, and playing cribbage with family.
Arthur was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church, a former member of Knights of Columbus, Optimists Club and the North Topeka Business Alliance.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Tom and Bill; his sister, Katherine; a nephew, and a great-niece.
He is survived by his wife; his children and their spouses; his grandchildren; his sisters, Margie (John) Heles of Des Moines, Marilyn (Charles) Moore, Barbara (Dan) Feldmann of Cedar Rapids and Maxine McEnany of Davenport; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Harrisonville, Mo., with interment at Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at Dickey Funeral Home in Harrisonville (816-884-6244), with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m.
