Vrba, Michael A. Sr.
Michael A. Vrba Sr., 60, of 595 Ricky Allen Dr., Robins, died Monday, May 10, 2010, in the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, Cedar Rapids, where visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. The Rev. William B. Harnish will officiate. Inurnment: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Christine; children, Michael A. Vrba Jr. (Bonnie) of Cedar Rapids, Danelle A. Vrba (Stan Camic) of Cedar Rapids, John W. Vrba and Amanda D. Vrba, both of Robins; father, Wilmer J. Vrba of Cedar Rapids; brother, William J. Vrba (Mary Kay) of Cedar Rapids; and grandchildren, Jacob M. Vrba, Maxine A. Vrba and Bradley J. Vrba.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Vrba; and grandparents, Joseph and Emma Vrba.
Michael was born Jan. 22, 1950, in Norfolk, Va., to Wilmer and Alice Vrba. He married Christine Scharfenberg on June 21, 1969 in Waterloo. Michael was a pipe fitter for Union Local No. 125 for 35 years. He enjoyed fishing, camping and flying control line model airplanes. Michael was a big history buff. He loved cruising early mornings in his PT Cruiser and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Michael's wish for his service was for everyone to be in casual attire.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Children's Miracle Network, c/o the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa.
