Paul Roesler deserves your vote

To the editor:
It's my favorite time of the year. School supply lists are available in the aisles of local stores and many families fill their carts with items requested by area classrooms. I wish that I could write 'A Vote for Paul Roesler” addendum at the bottom of each page. I believe his presence on the Iowa City school board would be more valuable than the fresh boxes of crayons that I cherish.
I trust Roesler to build our facilities according to the long term plan. Children are benefiting from the steps taken on this path and if we continue to move forward, the conditions of learning will soon match the excellence of our learners.
I trust Roesler to build communication. Expecting an elected official to agree with a citizen on every issue is unrealistic. Expecting an elected official to listen respectfully, speak honestly and serve enthusiastically is a necessity. If we are going to raise funds via a referendum, we must first raise the level of civility.
I trust Roesler to build the futures of all of our children. He isn't just seeking the two-year term because he believes in what they can do. He is asking for our votes because he believes in what we can do if we expand our notion of neighborhood to include people we may not encounter on our own journeys to school each day.
