UPDATE: Members of the Iowa Department of Correctional Services thought they spotted a man Tuesday night who had walked away from one of their work release homes, leading to an extensive search of a southwest Cedar Rapids cornfield.
Officers followed a vehicle carrying the man and a few others away from a local store, and Linn County deputies later helped stop the car near the intersection of Highways 13 and 30, but the man wasn't inside.
Marion and Mount Vernon police also helped look for the man in a cornfield near the intersection, and a search dog was also used, but the man was not located.
The Department of Correctional Services says the person they were looking for lived in a work release home and was not a threat to the public.
