Larinda Juliane Frieda Hebert, 97, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at Heritage Nursing Home in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines, with a visitation one hour before the service. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery.
Larinda was born Nov. 1, 1914, in Ida Grove to Henry and Malinda (Friedricksen) Marth. She went to school until the eighth grade in Ida Grove, where she enjoyed art and music. Larinda then left school to work on the family farm. She played the violin and piano and wrote short stories that were published in the local newspaper. Larinda had a passion for family and her grandchildren and was the world's best baby sitter for relatives and neighbors. She also worked at the Rockwell Collins Cafeteria and the Marion Motel.
Bowling at the Marion Bowling Alley was her favorite pastime.
Larinda is survived by her daughter, Gloria (Dean) Gray; son, Mike (Jo Anne); 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 28 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl; sons, Lonnie and Wendell; and grandson, Tim Hebert.
Larinda will be greatly missed for her sense of humor and caring ways.
