Vogel, Dorothy Irene
Dorothy Irene Vogel, 95, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully in her sleep with her extended “family” at Rock Ridge Residential Care Center, Shellsburg, in the afternoon of Monday, March 4, 2013. Celebration of life will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at the Elks Lodge, 801 33rd Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cedar Rapids. Inurnment: Linwood Mausoleum, Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mae (Shannon) Beltz; husband, Bert Vogel; son, Ronald Vogel; and seven brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Louise Vogel (wife of deceased son, Ronald) of Key Largo, Fla.; her children, Thomas (Suzanne) Vogel of Louisville, Ky., Dennis (Janet) Vogel of Shellsburg, Iowa, and Randy (Debra) Vogel of Palo; grandchildren, Terry, Cindi, Ronda, Debra, Denise, Diane, Tiffany, Brian, Tara and Shauna; 27 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Also surviving are her beloved neighbors, Smoke and Peggy Wilson, whom we all owe a debt of gratitude for their kindness and help over the years. You are “Family.”
Dorothy was born on Jan. 14, 1918, in Cedar Rapids, daughter of James and Mae Beltz. She married Bert Vogel on Feb. 2, 1935, in Cedar Rapids; he passed away on March 5, 1990. She worked at Rockwell Collins and later at Quaker Oats where she retired in 1975. Dorothy enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and crocheting and loved her faithful schnauzers, Heidi #1, Missy and Heidi #2
