Ella Elizabeth Samek, 96, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, May 18, 2015, at West Ridge Care Center. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 23, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 22, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, David (Sandra) Samek and Rick (Elaine) Samek, both of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Bridget (Mike) Brondon, Matthew (Amanda) Samek, Elizabeth Samek, Sarah (Neil) Voss and Emily Samek; two great-grandchildren, Devin Samek and Ezra Voss; and two nephews, Howard (Karen) Samek and Stephen Benda.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Arthur Samek; sister, Clara (Paul) Samek; and sister-in-law, Ellen (Vernon) Benda.
Ella Elizabeth Samek was born Feb. 16, 1919, in Hawkeye, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Ludvicek) Jansa. Ella graduated from Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids. Ella was united in marriage to Robert A. Samek on June 9, 1948, in Cedar Rapids. Together they shared 49 years, until he passed away in 1998.
She was employed with Iowa National Insurance Company for 13 years. Ella was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Keystone Sunday school class. Ella enjoyed baking, she was known for her excellent kolaches and cookies. But her greatest joy was being a grandmother and spending time with her family. She will always be remembered for being a loving, wonderful and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.
Ella's family would like to extend many thanks to all nurses, friends and family who gave her support and showed her kindness. Also a special thanks to the staff and residents at West Ridge Care Center.
