Sirowy, Lilyan 'Lil'
Lilyan “Lil” Sirowy, 94, of Swisher, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at Honey Creek Cottage. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Lilyan was born Oct. 3, 1916, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Albert and Rose (Klekar) Urban. She married Joseph “Jike” Melsha in May 1937. Jike passed away in 1961. Lil married Harold Sirowy on Dec. 2, 1962, at Trinity Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening and playing cards. Lil especially loved to polka dance.
Lil is survived by her husband, Harold; children, Lumir (Marilyn) Melsha, Lilyan “Ginger” Serbousek and Bruce (Linda) Melsha, all of Swisher; stepchildren, William (Jeffree) Sirowy of Redlands, Calif., and Linda Gibbons of Ventura, Calif.; and Lil's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joe “Jike” Melsha; her sisters, Rose Jordan-Croiser and Ella Zeleny; her brothers, Chuck, Lumir, Albert and Raymon Urban; a son-in-law, Richard Serbousek; a grandson, Joe Melsha; a stepson, Ronald Sirowy; and her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to either Essence of Life of Amana or to Honey Creek Cottage in Swisher.
