Dr. Melvin C. Gage,
84, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Sept. 14, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. The Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer will officiate. Entombment at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Survivors include his wife, Norma; a daughter, Andrea (Scott) Nienow of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons, Brian of Cedar Rapids and Bradley (Angela) of Urbandale; and a brother, Merlyn of Newark, Ohio. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Anne and Ian Gage and Grace and Scarlett Petrzelka Gage.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne.
Mel was born on June 10, 1931, in Webster City, the son of Clarence and Hazel Bobzin Gage. He married Norma J. Weaver on June 12, 1960, in LaCrosse, Wis. Mel graduated from Charles City High School, Webster City Junior College and later from the Illinois College of Podiatry in 1955. He was a podiatrist in Cedar Rapids for over 30 years, retiring in 1997.
Mel was a faithful member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, past president of the Iowa Podiatry Association from 1977 to 1978 and proudly served in the Army.
Mel was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial donations may be given to St. Paul's or to the National Parkinson Foundation in Mel's name.
