Helble, Sylvia M.
Sylvia M. Helble, 94, formerly of Iowa City, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Cedar Rapids.
Sylvia Mae Grapp was born July 26, 1919, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Charles Grapp and Viola Sinram. She attended high school in Iowa City and a few years later, on Nov. 24, 1941, married Albert Helble in Kahoka, Mo. Together they owned the Airport Restaurant for 11 years; she then worked at the Jefferson Hotel for 14 years, retiring in 1982.
Sylvia was a previous member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Her family includes her children, Leon Helble (Margaret O'Harra Helble) of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., and Cheryl Hagen (Cleo Hagen) of Melcher, Iowa; as well as five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; son, Robert in 2012; and her sisters.
Cremation services were provided and inurnment will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City.
