Thein, Melvin
Melvin Thein, 86, of Maquoketa, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at home in Maquoketa. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 15, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa. Family and friends may call Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Maquoketa.
Melvin was born Aug. 3, 1926, in Garnavillo, Iowa, to Arthur and Irene (Tuecke) Thein. He spent 24 years in Garnavillo, then moved to Maquoketa, where he married Mary Lou Mueller on April 6, 1951.
Since 1950 he has lived in Maquoketa, where he started a career in auto body, working at Rasmussen Motor Sales for 35 years. Melvin enjoyed golfing and fishing.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Thein of Maquoketa; four children, Tom (Loretta) Thein of Monticello, Terry (Mary Jo) Thein of Muscatine, Jane (Mike) Novak of Calamus and Doug (Sarah) Thein of Ventura; three brothers, Forest Thein, Richard (Faye) Thein and Leonard (Shirley) Thein, all of Garnavillo; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
