On his Twitter account Thursday evening, Chicago Curie High School's Maurice Fleming Jr. announced his commitment to play college football at the University of Iowa.
"Just committed to University of Iowa I will be a HAWKEYE," Fleming wrote. And then he added, "For Iowa I will probably be playing WR & DB lol. Can anybody say the next Deion sanders and Charles Woodson?"
Hey, why not? The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder played quarterback for Curie last season. According to EdgyTim of Rivals.com, several schools offered Fleming as a wide receiver. Iowa and Wisconsin offered him as a cornerback after Fleming had good showings at each school's one-day camps earlier this month.
"Iowa recruited me as a cornerback, and they offered me a scholarship at that position after I worked out for them at their one-day camp," Fleming told EdgyTim. "I also received an offer from Wisconsin after they saw me at cornerback at the Badgers' one-day camp. I've never played the position before, but I just felt really comfortable. It also felt natural for me at the camps, and the coaches agreed."
Fleming has 11 offers, including Wisconsin, Indiana and Minnesota.
"Really it was everything for me at Iowa," Fleming said. "I know they will make me a great person and a great player. I want to be a shut down corner for them and I also want to be one of the best cornerbacks in the country and Iowa will help me get to that level. Iowa is just a big time school, and a big time atmosphere and again everything just feels right for me with Iowa. My dream has been to play in the Big Ten and to also get to the NFL someday and I can't think of a better school for that than Iowa."
After announcing his commitment on Twitter, Fleming thanked a few Iowa fans for their congratulations.
"Appreciate all the Hawk Eye fans I really do!" he wrote.
Fleming is Iowa's fourth commitment and third this week.
