Spring Cleaning Scheduled for Downtown Parking Ramps May 20, 2011-Cedar Rapids, IA – During the week of May 23 – 27, Cedar Rapids Parking will begin work on several maintenance and cleaning projects in the Five Seasons, 3rd Avenue, 4th Avenue and Ground Transportation Center (GTC) parking ramps. Some of the improvements that customers will see include a complete power washing of the ramps, newly-painted navigational and parking space lines, as well as a significant decrease in pigeon activity. To minimize the impact on parkers, work will be done in the evening and overnight hours. Patrons using any of the impacted parking ramps will be given an alternative parking location to use during the ramp closures. A project schedule and relocation options are listed below: Five Seasons: The Five Seasons parking ramp will be closed May 23 and 24 from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Five Seasons monthly parkers may utilize Lots 24 and 26. While in the alternative lot, please place your access card on the dash of your vehicle to identify yourself as a Five Seasons monthly parker. 3rd Avenue: The 3rd Avenue parking ramp will be closed May 24 and 25 from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. 3rd Avenue monthly parkers may utilize the GTC parking ramp. While in the alternative parking ramp, please display your 3rd Avenue hang tag to identify yourself as a 3rd Avenue monthly parker. 4th Avenue: The 4th Avenue parking ramp will be closed May 25 and 26 from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00a.m. 4th Avenue monthly parkers may utilize Lot 24 and 26. While in the alternative parking ramp, please display your 4th Avenue hang tag to identify yourself as a 4th Avenue Monthly Parker. GTC: The Ground Transportation Center (GTC) parking ramp will be closed May 26 and 27 from 6:00p.m. to 6:00 a.m. GTC monthly parkers may utilize the 3rd Avenue parking ramp. While in the alternative parking ramp, please display your GTC hang tag to identify yourself as a GTC monthly parker. Parking patrons are asked to carefully review the closure times, as vehicles remaining in the facilities after the posted closure times will be removed at the owner's expense. Parkers that do seek an alternative location will also need to return to their regularly assigned facility by 6 a.m. “I believe that this very visible improvement project is a significant step in the right direction towards putting the focus back on the experience of the parking customer,” said Vanessa Rogers, Vice President of the Cedar Rapids Downtown District.
Cedar Rapids Parking also recently installed new, more energy-efficient lighting in the Five Seasons ramp parking ramp.
