Clare S. Mahoney, 84, of Oelwein, died Saturday morning, Nov. 15, 2014, at his home. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank, with the Rev. Paul C. McManus and Deacon Jim Patera officiating. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, where a parish Scripture service begins at 7 p.m. Interment: Greenwood Cemetery, rural Westgate.
Memorials may be sent to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Cedar Valley Hospice.

Clare Stephen Mahoney was born June 19, 1930, in Stanley, Iowa, the son of Carl A. and Lydia Ada (Lala) Mahoney. He graduated from Stanley High School in the class of 1948, from Upper Iowa University in Fayette in the class of 1952 and later received his master's degree from Colorado State College.
Clare was a teacher in Stanley, Iowa, and Omaha, Neb. He was a principal in Gothenburg and Omaha, Neb., and Fairfax, Va., retiring in 1988. In 1988, Clare, Roberta and Meera moved to Oelwein, where Clare worked for Upper Iowa University for six years.
Clare is survived by his daughter, Meera Mahoney of Oelwein; cousins; sister-in-law, Patricia (Larry) Stohr of Oelwein; two brothers-in-law, Ritchie (Ann) Kane of Westgate and Dennis Kane of Victorville, Calif.; and nieces and nephews.
Clare was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Roberta, on Aug. 24, 2013; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry (Barb) Kane; and his sister-in-law, Tina Kane.
Clare was a loving husband and father. He will be greatly missed.
