David Paul Staskal, 77, of Martelle, died Friday, July 17, 2015, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Private graveside services will be at a later date. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is
assisting the family.
David was born Oct. 30, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Joseph Leo and Mary Evelyn (Kolek) Staskal. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1956. David served in the United States Army. Following the service, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in occupational therapy from the University of Kansas-Lawrence. He was employed with the Modesto, Calif., school system for over 40 years as a physical/occupational therapist. David worked with children of all ages, especially cerebral palsy students.
His passions included gardening and playing a mean grand piano.
David is survived by his three sisters, Dorothy A. Hufford of Des Moines, Leota M. (Paul) Pospisil of Mount Vernon and Joelyn (James) Ainley-Lepanto of Greensboro, Ga.; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy in his name.
