Voehl, Cornelius
Cornelius Voehl, 90, formerly of Ottumwa, died Friday, June 3, 2011, at West Ridge Care Center. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
Cornelius is survived by a daughter, Georgia and husband John Fuoto of Newhall; cousin, Susanne Myres of Palo; friend, Leila Kirkhart of Ottumwa; and his beloved pet, Snoopy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eula; and sister, Eleanor Peters.
Cornelius was born Oct. 19, 1920, in Palo, to John and Laura Langton. He married Eula Street in Cedar Rapids on Feb. 1, 1946. She died in 2000. He was a meat inspector for the United States government until his retirement in 1980.
Cornelius was a member of the American Legion, NARFE, Izaak Walton League, and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ottumwa. Cornelius was an Army veteran of World War II and received the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
He was an avid vegetable gardener and sold his vegetables at the Farmers Market every year. He loved animals and volunteered at the Humane Society in Ottumwa. Cornelius was also a bell ringer for The Salvation Army.
