A big thank you for all of your support

I returned Tuesday night as a guardian for my dad, Carl Proescholdt, on the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight. The organization and kindness shown by the staff and volunteers left us speechless.
The day was filled with wonderful sights, pampering and accolades. However, the best part was our return to the Cedar Rapids airport. Even though we were an hour late and arrived at 11 p.m., the huge crowd to welcome us home brought us both to tears: Boy Scouts, children, motorcycle vets, men and women in uniform, legionnaires, people of all ages. We were greeted by flowers, clapping, handshaking and an amazing choir and band! As I pushed my dad through this gauntlet of love and thanks, my dad turned to me and said, “Kathleen, I feel like a king!”
My dad was in the Battle of the Bulge, he helped liberate a concentration camp, he flew in a glider over France and then came home quietly and resumed his life.
People of Cedar Rapids: Thank you for honoring my dad!
