Martin, Floyd C.
Floyd C. Martin, 92, of Hiawatha, died Monday, May 23, 2011, in his home following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 27, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Shiloh Cemetery, Hiawatha.
Surviving are his children, Floyd (Margie) Martin Jr. of Neosha, Mo., George (Janet) Martin of Tulsa, Okla., Phyllis (Don) Gehrig of Henderson, Nev., Ted (Linda) Martin of Hiawatha, Sid Martin of Tulsa, Okla., and Ralph (Pam) Martin of Carman, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and sisters, Naomi McClure of Skiatook, Okla., and Fay Berry of Owasso, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters, his wife and a granddaughter.
Floyd Clifford Martin was born May 1, 1919, in Delaware, Okla., the son of George W. and Maude V. (Buffington) Martin. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II. He married Grace Dennis in 1942, they were later divorced. In 1964, he moved to Hiawatha and became a pipe fitter for the Local 125 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. He retired in 1981. He married Vina Blin on Jan. 11, 1966; she preceded him in death in 1998. Floyd enjoyed caring for his vegetable gardens, flowers gardens especially his roses and meticulously caring for his lawn. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, college football and late night cooking. He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
