Stainbrook, Helen M.

Helen M. Stainbrook, 89, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born May 22, 1921, in Central City, daughter of Harvey and Clara Hesse Newman. She married Willis A. Stainbrook on Nov. 25, 1949, in Brandon. He died Feb. 12, 2007.

Helen graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in 1962. She was a beautician in Brandon for several and was later an elementary schoolteacher at Brandon, Walker and Iowa Valley Community School for many years.

Survivors include three sons, Craig (Sheila) of Waterloo, Cris (Dorothy) of Forest Lake, Minn., and Curt (Joan) of Stacy, Minn.; a daughter, Lori (Brad) Reeves of Stevensville, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Travis (Cathy) Stainbrook of Waterloo, Trent (Esther) Stainbrook of East Orange, N.J., Tesla Stainbrook and Cooper Stainbrook, both of Forest Lake, Minn., Eric (Laila) Stainbrook of New Hope, Minn., and Michelle and Michael Brock, both of Ogden; two great-granddaughters, Hanna and Haley Stainbrook; and a sister, Winifred “Bonnie” Canady of Marion.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Ellis Newman; and a sister, Delores Case.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, Waterloo, with burial at 1:30 p.m. in the Brandon Cemetery, Brandon. Public visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and for an hour before services Wednesday at the funeral home.
