Vyskocil, Dorothy May (Drake)
Dorothy May (Drake) Vyskocil, 100, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, May 21, 2012, at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 24, at Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her two daughters, Judy Heisler of Fairfax, and Joan Rawlins of Vinton; daughter-in-law, Carol Neal of Marion; grandchildren, Jeff Burns, Tammie Ellis (Randy), Marsha Hills (Kevin) and Melody Vance; and one stepgrandchild, Vonna Baker; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, John and David Vyskocil; sons-in-law, Don Heisler and Niel Klocke; sisters, Margaret Patton and Mary Drake; and brothers, Charles, Donald and Allen Drake.
Dorothy was born June 8, 1911, in Brooklyn, the daughter of John and Eva (Fritz) Drake. She graduated from high school in Brooklyn and also attended University of Iowa and Grinnell College. She taught in a one-room school in Victor. She married to Charles Vyskocil in Cedar Rapids on May 6, 1939. Dorothy worked as a seamstress for J.C. Penney for 23 years, where she retired as the manager of alteration. She enjoyed traveling, playing bingo and spending time with friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to Cedar Valley Humane Society.
