Hansel, Florine Iona

Florine Iona Hansel, 81, of Elkader, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at home.

She was born Aug. 6, 1931, in Mallory Township, Clayton County, Iowa, the daughter of Cedric and Cecile (Harris) Hansel. She was raised and educated in the area, attended rural Studebaker School through the 8th grade and graduated from Colesburg High School in 1949. After graduating from Bayless Business College in Dubuque, she worked for a year in Elkader as cashier for Bink Mercantile. In June 1952, she began working for L.J. Ehrhardt in the law office and continued working there for just over 50 years. She retired from Ehrhardt, Gnagy and McCorkindale Law Office in May 2003.

Florine enjoyed visiting family and friends and especially playing cards.

She is survived by cousins.

Florine was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader, with Pastor Andrea Mericle officiating. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Leonard Funeral Home and after 1 p.m. Friday at the church. Interment: Hansel Cemetery, rural Garber.
