N/A
Dec. 16, 2009 12:41 pm
The home of Marty and Lisa Jiras was partially destroyed by a fire this morning.
Shortly after 10 a.m., area fire departments responded to 2432 Cemetery Rd., for a report of a garage on fire.
The fire quickly spread to the rest of the two-story house.
Oxford Fire Chief Al Thomas said Lisa Jiras and two of her children were inside when the fire started, but said they were all able to get out safely. Marty Jiras and two other children were not home at the time.
The extent of the damage is not fully yet known, but Thomas said the home sustained significant smoke, water and fire damage throughout the house, and the attached garage was completely destroyed.
Thomas said no one was injured, but one person was being checked for frostbite.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this point, and the house is still standing but was being torn apart near the garage area by firefighters around 12 p.m. The Red Cross is assisting the family.
