Mary Jean Taylor was born Aug. 29, 1964, to John "Jack" and Madonna (Zubrod) Taylor in Cedar Rapids. She graduated from Marion High School in 1982, then attended Fort Peck Community College in Poplar, Mont., graduating with her degree. Mary worked as a cake decorator for nearly 20 years at Hy-Vee's Johnson Avenue, Collins Road and Marion locations. She met Chris Hogan at work, and they were married Oct. 16, 2014, in Cedar Rapids.
Mary was a beautifully artistic woman who enjoyed painting and drawing, writing poetry, and even had a beautiful singing voice. She enjoyed being outside and going for nature walks, especially the Sac & Fox Trail with Chris. They would go on many dates including movies and hockey games. She was close with her mom, and would visit often. Mary treasured her children. She was incredibly close with her daughter and bestie, Winona. They enjoyed visiting Perkins or Oscar's for a fun lunch date, traveling to Wisconsin to visit Keegan, where they would eat together and visit the bluffs, and simply being together. She will be missed by everyone who loves her.
She was preceded in death by her father; and infant son, Anthony Mitchell Strunk.
