Young, Robert C.
Robert C. Young, 89, a resident of Cottage Grove Place died there on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, after a long and wonderful life. Memorial services at 11 a.m. Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where friends may call after 10 a.m. The Rev. Emory Gillespie will officiate. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; a daughter, Julie (John) Sawyers of Schroon Lake, N.Y.; a son, John (Connie) of Bloomington, Minn.; twin brother, Richard (Grace) of Iowa City; and a brother, Bruce of Seattle, Wash.
He is also survived by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Bob was born on Nov. 5, 1922, in North Liberty, the son of Alexander and Sarah Hastings Young. He married Marjorie J. Burge on Aug. 31, 1947, in Iowa City. Bob was the treasurer at Altorfer Machine Co. and retired from there after many years of service. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, SCORE the National Association of Accountants, a long time member of Elmcrest Country Club and proudly served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Bob enjoyed woodworking, playing golf and especially the time spent with his many friends and beloved family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose memory will be cherished by all who knew him and loved him.
Memorial donations may be given to Hospice of Mercy.
