The Iowa Cultural Corridor Alliance (ICCA), a group of over 150 arts and cultural organizations in East Central Iowa, will be partnering with the Cedar Rapids Downtown District for their Downtown District Farmers' Market on Saturday, August 20, 2011 from 7:30 a.m.- noon. The market theme will be Arts & Culture Day and will feature multiple ICCA partners as they help to produce “random acts of culture” throughout the morning.
Arts & Culture Day at the Market will feature performances by ACExperiment, City Circle Acting Company, Nolte Academy of Dance, MetroMix Chorus, MOvMNT Dance Company, Old Creamery Theatre Company, and Orchestra Iowa's Brass Quintet. The Carl and Mary Kohler History Center will have an arts and crafts table in Greene Square Park, along with informational tables from The University of Iowa's Division of Performing Arts and the UNESCO City of Literature Book Marks Project.
“We are delighted to partner with the Cedar Rapids Downtown District for their August 20 farmers' market,” stated Abby Ballain, Executive Director of ICCA. “This day will allow the Corridor community to experience many of our unique and talented arts and cultural organizations.”
The Cedar Rapids Downtown District Farmers' Market is one of the largest open-air markets in the Midwest, with as many as 15,000 patrons visiting each market. Over 200 local vendors offer fresh produce, a variety of baked goods, and artisan gifts. The market is free and open to the public.
Support for the Iowa Cultural Corridor Alliance is provided by the Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Cedar Rapids Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the Corridor Business Journal. For more information regarding ICCA, visit www.culturalcorridor.org.
