Hoffman, Richard Paul

Richard Paul Hoffman, 61, of Marion, died at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, in his home. He was born Jan. 13, 1949, in Rockford, Ill., the son of Werner and Louise (Johnson) Hoffman. He was a graduate of East High School, Rockford, Ill., Augsburg College and University of Iowa. Richard was the Alma A. Turechek Professor of Music at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, and the New York Term Director. He was the choir master at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Cedar Rapids, taught music in Cedar Rapids at Washington and Kennedy High Schools and Mount Mercy College, and was the musical director at Theatre Cedar Rapids.

He is survived by his father, Werner; sisters, Nancy (Dennis) Norman and Ginny (Michael) Woodrow; aunt, Betty Delventhal; nephew, Ryan (Kara) Woodrow; niece, Megan Woodrow; numerous cousins; special friends, Eileen Robinson, Michael and Candace Pufall and Russ Moore; and a host of students and friends.

Predeceased by his mother, Louise; an infant sister; and niece, Cherstin Woodrow.

Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, in Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1285 Third Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Dr. Don Houdeshell, the Rev. Jim Langley, and the Rev. Herb Isenberg officiating.
