Terry Arthur Philpott, 78, of Rochester, Minn., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, May 5, 2017, at the Rochester Rehabilitation and Living Center with advanced Parkinson's disease. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, with a visitation an hour before at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Certified Celebrant Julie Freese officiating. A reception will immediately follow at Cedar Memorial Park Family Center and Library. Private family inurnment will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Terry Arthur Philpott was born July 26, 1938, to Edward and Mabel (Larson) Philpott in Chicago. He grew up in La Porte City, Iowa, and graduated from La Porte City High School in 1957. He operated the Mars Theater in La Porte City from the late 1950s to the early '60s. In 1957, he started work at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids.
He was united in marriage to Rosanne M. Boldt on June 6, 1964, in Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed electronics, amateur radio, editing 8mm home movies, building solar energy collection systems, radio-controlled airplanes and boats, and Lionel model trains.
Terry retired from Rockwell Collins in 1996 after 39 years of service. He also owned and operated his own businesses, TAPCO Engineering, followed by TAPCO R/C Hobby Shop.
Terry is survived by his wife, Rosanne; two sons, Rick (Cherie) of Rochester, Minn., and Todd of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Alex, Chase, Catelyn and Kyle; and a brother, Warren (Barb) of Palm Bay, Fla.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mabel (Larson) Philpott.
