Letter: Reader terrified by gun law changes

I couldn't agree more with the article on the proposed gun law changes ('Don't fast-track sweeping gun law changes,” Feb. 23).
These changes are not common sense and don't just tip the scales, they dump it all over the floor. I wonder how many of the drafters of this bill are in the pockets of the National Rifle Association.
I am particularly bothered by the proposal allowing teens who are years away from acquiring executive functioning to handle handguns. That is insane. This bill does not make me feel safer. In fact, it terrifies me even more. It makes me question the executive functioning of the drafters of this bill.
In a related story, I agree with Rep. Dave Loebsack. Iowa is mimicking what is happening in Washington. Is Gov. Terry Branstad checking off items on his bucket list before he makes his exit to China? I'm ashamed to call myself an Iowan, where I used to think common sense and civility were once held widely and dearly.
