Jean Postel, 79, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at the Anamosa Care Center following a long battle with Alzheimer's.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Anamosa, where friends may greet the family after 10 a.m. Interment will be in the Wilcox Cemetery, Viola. The Rev. Rodney Bluml will officiate at the services. Goettsch Funeral Home has been entrusted with the services. Thoughts, memories and condolences may be left at goettschonline.com.
Surviving are her daughter, Barbara (Cheyenne) Lerch; three grandchildren, Steven Lerch, Molly (Blake) Hubler and Kelly (Chris) Ainesworth, Cedar Rapids; great-grandchildren, Cullen Hubler and Mila Ainesworth; her twin, Dean (LaDonna) Ricklefs; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Curt (Lou) Postel, Bing (Dorothy) Postel, Mary Postel and Don Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russ, in June of 2017; a son, William; her sister, Hattie Ricklefs; a brother, Willis Ricklefs; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Ricklefs and Lois Smith; and a brother-in-law, George Postel.
Jean Joann Ricklefs was born June 16, 1938, at Anamosa, Iowa. She was the daughter of William F. and Lena Gross Ricklefs. Jean graduated from Martelle High School in 1956. She then went to work at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids. Jean Ricklefs married Russ Postel on Aug. 4, 1957, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. She continued her job at Collins until 1967, when she went to work at the Anamosa Community Schools as the secretary to the superintendent. From 1972 until 1974, she was the secretary to the athletic director. In 1974, she took a job she truly loved as the secretary and office assistant at the Jones County Extension Service. She retired from there in 2000.
Jean was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and also worked on the funeral lunch committee.
