Schild, Mildred

Mildred Leona Koep was born Aug. 27, 1920, south of Keystone, to Louis and Amelia Balhorn Koep. She attended Kane township country school until 1933, when the family moved to a farm east of Belle Plaine. Then she attended Buckeye country school and graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1937. On Dec. 14, 1940, she married John Richard “Dick” Schild at the Congregational Church parsonage in Belle Plaine. They made their home on their farm near Belle Plaine. Mildred was an active partner on the farm. She was a member of First Congregational Church, where she taught Sunday school and was one of “the church ladies.” She also belonged to Friendly Neighbors, Junior Farm Bureau, was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and served as Iowa Township Clerk for many years.
She is survived by her husband; son, Don (Jeananne) of Grinnell; daughter, Ann Reinhardt of Keystone; grandchildren, Chris Schild of Des Moines, Cory Schild of North Liberty, Clint (Keri) Schild of Tucson, Ariz., and Tricia (Buck) Carl of Belle Plaine; great-grandchildren, Luke, Chase and Tatum Schild; her sister, Dorothy Miller of Grinnell; in-laws, Don (Jean) Schild and Mildred Beyer; one niece and many nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister, Helen; brother, Stanley Koep in 1996; son-in-law, John Reinhardt; and grandson, John Matthew Reinhardt.
The family suggests any memorial gifts honoring Mildred be given to the Belle Plaine Historical Museum, Mayflower Community in Grinnell, or the donor's choice.
A Remembrance will be held at the Carmen Center at the Mayflower in Grinnell at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8.
Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.hrabakfuneralhome.com under ‘obituaries.'
