Abbott, Karen R.
Karen R. Abbott, 50, of Iowa City, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, at her home unexpectantly. Family and friends will gather at the home of her mother, at 116 Apache Trail, Iowa City, from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30.
Karen Renee' Poggenpohl was born Dec. 13, 1959, in Iowa City, the daughter of Walter F. and Edith A. (Halstead) Poggenpohl. For a number of years she was employed at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as a CNA.
Her family includes her mother, Edith Blanton of Iowa City; son, Joseph Rorex of Iowa City; daughter, Jennifer Shadday (Jeremiah) of Kelso, Wash.; brother, Steven Poggenpohl; sisters, Cindy Stroud and Janet Alcock (Ed), both of Iowa City, and Dawn Schulte (Brad) of North Liberty; grandson, Jacob Dean Bild; and nieces and nephews, Danelle Deatsch, Colette and Brian Applegarth, Wade Baines, and Marty Martinson.
She was preceded in death by her father; stepfather, Jack Blanton; and a nephew, Jason Williams.
