Charles S. "Chuck" Davis, 69, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, July 22, 2016, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Iowa Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Donna; two daughters, Jenny Petersen Frederick of Eugene, Ore., and Stacey (Jerry) Goeders of Dayton, Iowa; two brothers, Timothy (Margaret) of Madison, Wis., and Ralph (Ella) of Jamestown, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Alex, Taylor and Tavin; a cousin, Michael (Trish) Quinn of Polk City; nephews and nieces; and many, many special friends to include Dr. Harbans Deol and Becky Quinn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Donna Kennedy and JoAnn Davis.
Chuck was born March 29, 1947, in La Crosse, Wis., the son of Melvin and Wanda McDonald Davis. He graduated from UNI with a degree in sociology. Chuck married Donna M. Powell on Nov. 19, 1982, in Monticello.
He was employed by the Department of Corrections for more than 36 years and retired as an administrative law judge at the Oakdale facility in 2006. He was not only supportive of the military, but very proud of his wartime service. He served in an Army infantry unit in Vietnam and was a former member of the VFW.
Chuck was a real people person. He had a quick wit, was a great storyteller and had a big heart. His greatest joy was spending time with his many friends and beloved family, especially his grandchildren. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial fund has been established.
