Seedorff, Charles W. 'Bill'

Charles W. “Bill” Seedorff, 77, of Manchester, Iowa, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, surrounded by his family, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.  Funeral Services:  11 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Manchester, with the Rev. Dr. Jean Rabary officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home & Crematory in Manchester and after 9 a.m. Monday at the church. Interment:  Taylorville Cemetery, rural Arlington.

He was born Oct. 23, 1932, in Arlington, Iowa, the son of Roy and Leone (Culver) Seedorff. Bill attended Arlington High School in Arlingon and founded Seedorff Masonry in 1957.  Headquartered in Strawberry Point,  SMI operates throughout the upper Midwest and has regional operations in Omaha, Lincoln, Des Moines and the Quad Cities.  In 2009, Engineering News Record ranked Seedorff Masonry, Inc. as the fourth largest contractor in the nation. 

Within the masonry industry, Bill served as chairman of the Iowa Chapter of the Mason Contractors Association of America and the first chairman of the Master Builders of Iowa's Associate Council.  He was also instrumental in creating the Masonry Institute of Iowa.   

Recognized for his commitment to excellence within the construction industry and his contributions to his community, Bill was honored as the recipient of the Master Builders of Iowa Build Iowa Award in 1994, the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award from the Lions International Association in 1995, and he was inducted as a Laureate into the Junior Achievement Hall of Fame in 2004.  In 2009, Bill furthered his legacy of generosity and community service with a contribution to the Charles W. “Bill” Seedorff Gymnasium at West Delaware High School.

Bill was married to Harriet Guetzko on Sept. 29, 1990, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Manchester. 

Survivors include his wife, Harriet Seedorff of Manchester; two daughters, Alicia (Steve) Seedorff-Tripp of Strawberry Point  and Melinda (Dave) Wagner of Oelwein; two sons, Tom (Julie) Seedorff of Hiawatha and Kurt (Michelle) Seedorff of Altoona; stepsons, Terry Norberg  and Tom (Susie) Norberg, both of Strawberry Point, Scott (Dianna) Guetzko of Independence, Mo., and  Mark (Lisa) Guetzko of Manchester;  stepdaughters, Sue (Dale) Kartman of Strawberry Point,  Toni (Gene) Browning of Manchester and  Laura (Neal) Jackson of Johnston; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Carmen Patrick of Coarsegold, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a stepdaughter and two grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Bill Seedorff Memorial Fund. 

All contributions will be given in Bill's memory to the Good Neighbor Home, where he received loving care.
