Scott, Charles L.
Charles L. Scott, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died of cancer on Tuesday July 12, 2011, at his home. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Salem United Methodist Church. The Rev. John Louk will officiate. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary (Darold) Groat of Littleton, Colo., Margaret (Torsten) Wegler of London, England, and Allison (Greg) Nims of Des Moines; two sons, Jeffrey (Shannon) of Overland Park, Kan., and Paul of Cedar Rapids; brother, Donald Scott of Cedar Rapids; sister, Helen Wyant of Missouri; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Charles was born July 15, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, to Lester and Nellie (Holsinger) Scott. He married Evelyn S. Packingham on Aug. 25, 1948, in Cedar Rapids. She died in April 2011. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Charles worked at Rockwell Collins as a system analyst and retired from there after many years of service.
He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and active in its Cards and Fellowship, Golden Links, Leadership Board and United Methodist Men. He was also involved in Emmaus and Chrysalis groups. Charles volunteered at the Ecumenical Center and Margaret Bock Housing. He received the Local Hero and the Governor's Volunteer awards.
