Christy, Janet E.
Janet E. Christy, 65, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday afternoon, Oct. 6, 2012, at Saint Luke's Hospital. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church by Pastor Phil Jorgensen. Burial: Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Spragueville. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Janet is survived by her children, Becky Christy, Hiawatha, Tammy (James) Mead and Jack Christy, both of Cedar Rapids; brother, Neville (Steph) Stamp, Goose Lake; sisters, Wandalee Ganzer, Spragueville and Marilyn (Lloyd Zell) Ehlers, Preston; five grandchildren; four nieces; nine nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; an infant son, Walter; and her parents, Gerald and Myrl (Flagel) Stamp.
Janet was born Nov. 17, 1946, in Spragueville, and had lived in Cedar Rapids since 1974, moving there from California. She married Donald W. Christy on July 2, 1972, in Spragueville. He died Nov. 28, 1995. Janet owned and operated a children's day care out of her home for many years and had also worked as a dietary aide at Saint Luke's Hospital and Living Center East. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Janet enjoyed nature dogs and loved watching birds.
A memorial fund has been established in Janet's name.
