Shaw, Don Willis
Don Willis Shaw, 74, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Don was born Feb. 2, 1938, in Vinton, Iowa, to Ralph and Cora Shaw and graduated from Vinton High School in 1956. He received his undergraduate degree from Iowa State University and his Masters from University of Iowa. Don and Ruth Ehlers were married Sept. 5, 1959, in Vinton. He taught Industrial Arts and Special Education from 1960 to 1973 and then owned and operated his own business, Shaw Electrical Contractor Ltd. He enjoyed traveling, antiquing, working on cars, mission work and spending time with friends and family. He was a member of AACA and Model A Car Clubs.
Surviving to honor his memory are four children, Michele (Tom) Kurtenbach of Black Hawk, S.D., Robin Shaw of Cedar Rapids, Danielle Jaschen of Johnston, and Brett (Cyndi) Shaw of Hartland, Wis., four grandchildren, Nicole, Mandy, Adam and Evan and fiancee Donna Meeks of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Anna Purna Ghosh Foundation.
