Mitchell, Alvin J.
Alvin J. Mitchell, 79, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Dec. 12, 2011. Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, where friends may call after 10 a.m. until service time. The Rev. William B. Harnish will officiate. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Rose M. Mitchell; a son, Howard Q. Mitchell of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Sharon (David) Chihak and Debra J. Bell, both of Cedar Rapids; three brothers, Dale L Mitchell of Republic, Mo., John D. (Jean) Mitchell of Atkins, and Larry Mitchell of Rochelle, Ill.; and four grandchildren, Matthew and Jeremy (fiancee Holly) Chihak and Anthony and Adam Zirkelbach.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Richard; a brother, Paul Mitchell; and his sisters, Irene Boxwell and Alice Duffe.
Alvin was born July 21, 1932, in Benton County, the son of Andrew and Pearl Abrahamson Mitchell. He married Rose Mary Post on May 17, 1959, in Atkins. Alvin was employed at Rockwell Collins as a test technician. He was a hard worker and was well thought of. He enjoyed visiting with people, spending time with his grandchildren and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
