Greene, Frank J.
Frank J. Greene died on Holy Thursday, April 1, 2010, at Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney, with his family by his side, at the age of 86 years. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English. The Rev. Philip Ryan will preside. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English, with a wake service at 4 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Sigourney.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Greene of Keswick; children, James (Janet) Greene of Boise, Idaho, Patrick Greene of Coralville, Andrew (Kathy) Greene of Keswick, Terrance (Willie) Greene of South English, Mary Greene of What Cheer, Kathy (John) Marner of Iowa City, Beth (Mike) James of Deep River, Frank Greene of Gibson, Steve (Amy) Greene of Deep River and Richard Greene of Keswick; 26 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Greene of Webster and Richard Greene of Williamsport, Pa.; and two sisters, Margaret Greene and Kathleen Strohman, both of West Des Moines.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Francis, Mick and Ed; two brothers, James and Roy; three sisters, Anna Stites, Jessie McCurdy and Ellen Selk; and an infant granddaughter.
Frank was born June 14, 1923, in Keswick, Iowa, a son of James and Bertha (Nilles) Greene. He graduated from Keswick High School in 1942. Frank served in the SeaBees, the construction battalions of the U.S. Navy, during World War Il. He was united in marriage to Thresea M. Dansdill on April 14, 1947, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Millersburg. He farmed for 60 years.
Frank was a member of the American Legion in Keswick and the Knights of Columbus in Harper. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed working with his cattle.
