A 37-year-old Cedar Rapids man received a suspended sentence Thursday in Linn County District Court for breaking into a home and stealing items last May from a man he had previously helped.
Matthew Robinson pleaded guilty in September to second-degree burglary. He was originally charged with first-degree robbery. He was sentenced to 10 years but it was suspended and he will instead serve three years probation.
Robinson had previously helped the homeowner with his dog while the man's son was hospitalized.
Robinson was also ordered to have no contact with the victim and to pay victim's restitution, which will be determined later.
