Lewis, Clarence R.
Clarence R. Lewis, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center. Services: 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids by the Rev. Christine Wagner-Hecht. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Military honors by VFW Post 788.
Survivors include his sons, Darwin (Mary Jane) Lewis of Odesa, Texas, John (Maureen) Lewis of Brown City, Mich., and Richard (Wendy) Lewis of Lancaster, Calif.; a stepson, Robert (Elaine) Miller of Neenah, Wis.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and special friends, Linda and Jessie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Irene; three brothers, Richard, Frederick and John; and two sisters, Nellie and Pauline.
Clarence was born April 16, 1924, the son of Ben and Josie (Reeves) Lewis in Mystic, Iowa. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II with General Patton's forces. On March 27, 1964, he married Marjorie Arthur in Cedar Rapids. She died Oct. 8, 2005. Clarence retired from the City of Cedar Rapids.
Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association in memory of Clarence.
