Miller, Jack Edward 'Captain Jack'
Jack Edward Miller “Captain Jack” died peacefully in his home on St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles, on Jan. 6, 2011. He was 67 years old. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 11, in St. Maarten. A memorial gathering will be held this summer at the Coralville Reservoir.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; his daughter, Melissa (Eric) Ruhlow; his son, Jeff (Angie) Miller; his grandchildren, Johnathon, Jeffrey and Cassidy Ruhlow and Tanner Miller; his three sisters, Joan (Leon) Dick, Betty (Bob) Lemons and Janet (Brett) Whiting; as well as his four dogs, “Hooch,” “Roadkill,” “Speed Bump,” and “Pothole.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Thelma Miller; and his first wife, Janet (Frantz) Miller.
Jack was born July 21, 1943, in Coldwater, Mich., and was a 1961 graduate of Coldwater High School. He then joined the U.S. Navy where he served for several years in the states and abroad. In 1966, he married Janet K. Frantz in Iowa City, Iowa. Janet passed away in 1990. Through the years, he worked for Boeing Aeronautics, Oral B, and he was a well-known Realtor in the Iowa City area. Jack owned and operated Mini-Priced Mini-Storage Facility in Coralville for many years.
In 1991, Jack met Linda (Schneekloth) in Iowa City and they married Aug. 8, 1991. In 1996, Jack and Linda moved to St. Maarten. For the past 15 years, Jack was involved with boat charters, contracting, and freelance photography.
