Swailes, Norma H.
Norma H. Swailes, 85, of Riverside, passed away Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at Mercy Iowa City. Mass of the Resurrection for Norma will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside. Father David Brownfield will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Jason Thomann, Matthew Slay, Nicholas Slay, Jeromy Slay, Conor Malloy and Bradley Swailes. Honorary casket bearers will be Dimitri Adams and Keenan Adams. Following the committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at St. Mary's Parish Center. Visitation for Norma will be Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Riverside, with 7 p.m. prayer services.
A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Norma.

Norma Helen Kasper was born June 9, 1928, in Washington County, Iowa, the daughter of Edward H. and Zitta R. (Kron) Kasper. Norma was a graduate of Riverside Public School. On July 29, 1950, she married Ernest R. Swailes in Richmond, Iowa. Norma was co-owner/operator of Swailes Electric with her husband, Ernest, from 1950-2007.
She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Riverside and the Riverside VFW Auxiliary. Norma enjoyed playing cards and dominoes and doing many things with her husband, Ernest, bowling, dancing and going to horse and dog races. Most of all, she dearly loved to spend time with her family.
Norma will be deeply missed by her children, Jane M. Thomann and husband Ross of Columbus Junction, Carol S. Malloy of Sturgeon, Mo., Dean E. Swailes and wife Patricia of Riverside, Mary K. Slay and husband Craig of Riverside, Betty A. Adams of Cardiff, Calif., and Lori J. Montag and husband Bill of Coralville; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Margaret M. Hora of West Branch.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest; one son, Larry Keith; son-in-law, Albert Malloy; three brothers, Paul, Louis and Cletus; and one sister, Rose Burns.
