OLIVER M. WALKNER Cedar Rapids Oliver M. Walkner, 84, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, at the Solon Nursing Care Center following a long illness. Oliver's wishes were to donate his body to science through the Deeded Body Program at the University of Iowa. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, followed by an open house from 1:30 until 3:30 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4150 Bluejay Dr., Cedar Rapids. Brosh Chapel & The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids is serving the family. Oliver "Fuzz" is survived by his children, Mike (Connie), Wayne (Laurie), Sandy (Dave) Samek, Mark (Tammy), Sharon (Kent) Ricklefs, Kelly Walkner and Shelly (Lou Ann) Walkner; stepchildren, Bev (Ed) Reuther, Alan (Jody) McMurrin, Dave McMurrin, Scott McMurrin and Susan Christofferson; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn (Russell) Carver, Rose Lockhart and Jane (Curtis) Schantz; many nieces and nephews; and his cat, "DC." He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Mary Lou, Edna and Lois; son-in-law, Butch Roose; brothers, Jerry, Allen "Peewee," George, and Harry; sisters, Dorothy Lazenby and Margie Walkner; and two brothers-in law, John Lockhart and Harley Lazenby. Oliver was born in 1932, in Mason City, the son of Parkie and Mary Walkner. He graduated from Marion High School. He then joined the Marines and, after leaving the service, he became a Cedar Rapids police officer until his retirement. Following retirement, he continued working various jobs in the Cedar Rapids area. He enjoyed woodworking, motorcycles and, above all, his grandchildren. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at the Solon Nursing Care Center for their kind and compassionate care given to "Fuzz" over the past three years.
