Herring, Irma R.
Irma R. Herring, 69, of Iowa City, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at Iowa City Care and Rehab Center.
Irma Rose Herring was born June 30, 1944, in Johnson County, Iowa, the daughter of Paul E. and Hazel A. (Miller) Herring. She graduated from Oxford High School and attended the Iowa City Commercial College. She was a professional secretary and worked most of her life for the University of Iowa, retiring in 2008.
She was a member of the Iowa City Professional Secretarial Association and for many years volunteered at the Iowa City Public Library.
Her family includes her siblings, Paul T. Herring of Columbus Junction, Robert “Bob” Herring of Tiffin, Gene Herring of Cedar Rapids, John “Jack” Herring of Iowa City and Helen Davis of Charlotte, Ark; as well as numerous extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Wilma Ferguson, Elsie Martin, Geraldine Gassman, Mary Ann Luedeman and Emily Koenigsacker; and brother, Glen Herring.
In keeping with Irma's wishes, she will be cremated and no public services will be held. Family burial will take place at a later time at Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty.
