Gerald was born May 12, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was self-employed throughout his life, starting and running many different businesses. He was most recently the owner and operator of Hallmark Nursing Home in Mount Vernon.
Gerald loved both riding and restoring motorcycles. He was a member of Chief Blackhawk Antique Motorcycle Club.
He was the ultimate collector and had many different collections, always drawn to it by the thrill of the hunt. He had a love for animals, and during his life was well known for hauling home many a stray little creature to give them a warm, loving home. Gerald was a veteran of World War II.
We, as a family, want to send a special thank-you to Dr. Saxena and the dialysis staff, who, with kindness and compassion, took care of Gerald these past 3 1/2 years.
Gerald was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather. He will be forever missed, but will be remembered with profound love through the many memories with which he blessed each and every one of us.
Memorials may be directed to the family, who will make donations to charities special to Gerald.
