SEATTLE – Northern Iowa's most-famous athlete trekked from Arizona to Seattle to cheer on the Panthers in the NCAA basketball tournament Friday.
Kurt Warner, the two-time NFL Most Valuable Player from Cedar Rapids and UNI, was in KeyArena to watch the Panthers play Wyoming in an NCAA contest.
'I always wanted to play in this thing myself,” said Warner, who was a good basketball player at Cedar Rapids Regis High School and still plays recreationally.
'I got a call from Coach Jake (Ben Jacobson) asking me to come up and hang with the team. We're enjoying the experience. I always wanted to do it, and my boys (Kade and Elijah) are big fans.
'I talked to the team a little bit last night. I'm glad to be here.”
