Letter: Save the historic Ely’s Stone Bridge

We saw the importance to the people of Ely's Stone Bridge on a recent Friday night at Jitney in Monticello.
I think there was a conclusion that it could be repaired and used for many years to come. I think we'll find out at the end of this year, I understand anyway. I hope proof that it can be of use will come then.
The bridge has a rich history in Jones County. I've visited with many people in the 51 years I lived there, that Ely's Stone Bridge is loved and visited often when people come back for reunions and to connect with the past.
People fish, play, skate in the winter, and just enjoy being there. I've spent hours with my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren under that bridge.
I've saw graduation, reunions, and family pictures taken there. Also classes from the schools have been down there drawing pictures and enjoying the views.
What a beautiful spot we have here in our midst to enjoy! Save Ely's Stone Bridge.
