M. Roberta Ackman, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Burial: 2 p.m., Holy Cross Cem-etery, Keystone. A rosary and vigil service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Friends also may visit Thursday after 9 a.m. at the church.
Roberta is survived by her three children, Dwayne (Lesa) Ackman, Diane Ackman and Randy (Michelle) Ackman, all of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Joshua Ackman, Bailey Ackman, Christopher Ackman and Samuel Ackman; and three sisters-in-law, Nancy Boies of Keystone, Joann Ackman of Cedar Falls and Geneva Ackman of Brookings, S.D.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce; twin brother, Robert Boies; brothers-in-law, Carl, Keith, Don and Hubert Ackman; and nephew, Richard Boies.
Mary Roberta was born July 19, 1930, in Van Horne, the daughter of Homer and Margaret (Maher) Boies. She married Bruce Harlan Ackman on Aug. 3, 1954, in Van Horne. She graduated from Keystone High School in 1948. She received a teaching certificate from the University of Northern Iowa and taught in Cedar Rapids, Shellsburg and Marengo. After teaching, she was a bookkeeper for Paramount Pharmacies, United Cerebral Palsy Association and Loving Care Learning Center, finally retiring in 1999.
Roberta was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially watching her children and grandchildren participate in school activities.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Mary Ann Nelson, Chris DeVore, Nora Hamlin and the staff at Promise House for their care and compassion for Roberta.
Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Church or Alzheimer's Association.
